Last year my pal Brook-Lynne of @oldmoonvintage turned me on to the bizarre world of wwii lingerie sets from the 1940’s- (looking specifically at the amazing collection of @guermantes.vintage.) As a sort of romantic gesture, lingerie sets with hand embroidered text reading “don’t touch” or “honey keep your pants on til I come home” would be sent to soldier’s sweeties. Some even had crotch zippers!!!! Yowza! Two parts endearing, one part possesive? (How bout you keep YOUR pants on, homeboi!) Focusing on the very sweet and romantic aspects, these sets inspired me to stitch a soft, body positive, contemporary version! I really enjoyed the hand-stitched, imperfect quality of the original pairs, so I intentionally embraced that with my embroidery machine. Fun fact: all the thread used are beautiful vintage spools from my mother’s sewing collection.
